Campus Diversity Advisory Committee

Committee Description:

The Continuing Education Diversity Committee (CDAC) is an Administrative Governance Council participatory governance committee comprised of representation from Continuing Education faculty, administration, and staff. The role of the Diversity Committee is to fulfill the mandates contained in Board Policy 7100 Commitment to Diversity:

The District is committed to employing qualified administrators, faculty, and staff members who are dedicated to the success of all students. The Board recognizes that cultural competency is an important component of being qualified. The Board further recognizes that diversity in the academic environment fosters cultural awareness, promotes mutual understanding and respect, and provides suitable role models for all students. The Board is committed to hiring and staff development processes that support the goals of equal opportunity, diversity, and cultural competency, to provide equal consideration for all qualified candidates.

Committee Membership:

Committee membership is comprised of Faculty, Administration, and Classified members, providing a diverse cross-section of the institution. Faculty representation shall include at least one person from the Student Services division, one from Academic Programs, and one from Vocational Programs.

Committee Goals

  1. To assist in carrying out board policy 7100 to make reasonable efforts to hire employees who demonstrate Cultural Competence
  2. To raise skills, knowledge and attitudes in terms of the cultural competence and cross cultural skills of current employees via training and professional development
  3. To ensure awareness, knowledge, and understanding of different cultures

Committee Procedures:

The Campus Diversity Advisory Committee will:

  • Establish an annual calendar to include identifying annual goals and activities;
  • Review Continuing Education and District data on diversity;
  • Recommend actions that foster employee diversity, skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are culturally competent.

Committee Calendar

Committee will meet no less than once per quarter and include virtual and face to face meetings, as appropriate, at a regularly scheduled time. The committee may vote electronically or in committee.
